The transmission of a Scania R490 began to vibrate heavily and make unusual noises while driving. As the customer also complained about a lack of power with his turbocharger, this was also to be replaced with a new part. We took the truck to our workshop in 97618 Niederlauer and prepared to remove the gearbox. After disconnecting the electrical connections, we removed the oil filler hose and disconnected all the oil hoses from the gearbox. Now, with the pushrod holder removed, we are ready to get to the gearbox.
One by one, we collect the starter motor, drive shaft, hydraulic pump and other removed parts on the way to the gearbox before we can finally take it out, dissassemble it and look for defective parts. The cause of the defect: Too much wear on several transmission parts and a bent shaft. We organise the necessary spare parts, including bearings, seals, gears and a new shaft, install them in the transmission and set about putting it back in the Scania. Finally, all the components of the Scania are reinstalled in reverse order, the old turbocharger is replaced with a new one during the process, all cables and pipes are attached and we take the truck on a test drive, which it passes without issues, before we return the ready-to-use Scania to the customer.
