A construction worked noticed that his JCB mini excavator was leaking oil. The excavator was brought to our workshop in 97618 Niederlauer, Germany, to find and repair the damage. As the oil was leaking from the articulated joint in front of the excavator boom, we first checked the hydraulic hoses, which turned out to be cracked. Mini excavators from the British company JCB are widely used in Europe and anyone might have seen them when passing by on construction sites. Production of the 803 started in the mid-90s and was discontinued in early 2000 - so as we are dealing with a model that is over 20 years old, wear-related problems are to be expected even with proper use and cracked hydraulic hoses are generally a relatively common defect in excavators. Not our first repair.
We removed the broken hoses, checked the dimensions and ordered the manufacture of new replacement hoses, which we then inserted, connected and filled with oil. The replacement was completed in just a few hours on the same day.
